Rand Peltzer Bargaining for Gizmo in the Antique Shop.
This local and poor antique shop found in Chinatown was owned by Sam Wing up until the start of "Gremlins 2: The New Batch". It was also the home of a furry little Mogwai named Gizmo, who was stored in a box by his caretakers - Mr. Wing and his young grandson.
It is unknown when Mr. Wing opened his store, but it appears to have been opened for some time when it first appeared in Gremlins. The store is small, and is lit with numerous candles, dispersed around the building. Asian statues, Golden Dragons and pottery can be found in the store as well as other valuable and rare artifacts.
When an inventor by the name of Rand Peltzer found the shop, hoping it would have something for his son Billy. He looked around he saw exactly what he wanted. As Rand listened to Gizmo sing, he was astounded and told Mr. Wing that "he had to have it". Unfortunately, Wing replied "not for sale", but when Rand offered him $200 dollars his grandson begged him to accept. The old man wouldn't budge so the inventor left disappointed. Mr. Wing's grandson followed him outside and gave him the Mogwai he wanted in exchange for the money. Along with Gizmo the boy gave Rand three rules to follow when keeping the furry creature and they parted ways.
In "Gremlins 2: The New Batch", the antique store was being eyed by Daniel Clamp, who had already bought all other property in the vicinity for a new developement plan. Through his associate, Frank Forster, he made Mr. Wing several offers, but Mr. Wing turned them all down. However, Forster realized Wing was old and dying, and anticipated they could simply wait for him to pass away. When Mr. Wing indeed passed not much later, Forster had the store torn down, with Gizmo barely escaping the destruction.
